Volunteer with BRTA
BRTA is entirely driven by its members and volunteers – we’re all passionate and committed to enabling improved public transport across Britain. Could you be part of the BRTA team?
Sustainable Transport Needs YOU!
Our volunteer opportunities offer skills development, experience exchange, the social benefits of working in a friendly, diverse team and space to try something new.
We’re seeking enthusiastic, flexible and reliable people in these areas:
Events makers
Fundraising and grants
BUSINESS CASE MAKING AND LOCAL GOVT. LIAISON
Research, photography, DIAGRAMS, MAPPING
BRTA leadership support
Area Representatives
Events Makers and Marketing
We offer a busy programme of events and meetings across the country.
Can you play a part in making them happen? Can you help generate interest in both the work of BRTA and bring in new members?
Could you help to run pop-up BRTA campaign stalls at railway stations and events?
How about leafleting in strategic areas, to publicise meetings, to canvas rerailing opinion and grow support?
Fundraising and Grants
By design, we’re light on our feet but organising, bringing people together and campaigning for better public transport – it costs!
Could you research and apply for relevant grant funding?
Could you help run fundraising campaigns to strengthen the voice of BRTA?
You’d work closely, yet remotely, alongside our excellent treasurer and executive committee.
Get in touch.
Research and Photography
Building a case for railway reopenings involves photographs taken on the ground. Lots of them. And maps. And an adventurous spirit!
Help expand our database of re-openings and identify challenges and opportunities.
Track-beds, junctions, bridges, tunnels, proposed development sites, pinch-points and sustainable transport opportunities all over the country – we need them documented and monitored.
Are you a keen railway landscape explorer or an enthusiastic industrial archaeologist with an eye for future rerailing?
Get on board.
BRTA Leadership Support
We are a neurodivergent-led organisation. Members of our leadership team also have visual and mobility impairments.
Your voluntary support could help our key team members reach public-transport inaccessible public and campaigning events, with equipment and materials. This may coincide nicely with your love of attending model rail exhibitions, village fetes, steam rallies and galas!
Your skills may bring crucial steps forward in improving BRTA’s external communications. You may be an excellent proof-reader or copy editor.
How about helping us expand our membership base? Maybe you’re a great communicator via social media and online forums?
You might be keen to take on delegated fundraising, re-opening project and admin tasks – all with remote working.
We’d love to hear from you.
Area Representatives
We have a national reach – but only with your support.
Are you connected with a reopening campaign in your area? Join BRTA and help us magnify your efforts on a national stage.
Can you be the local ears and eyes of BRTA to nurture rail reopenings?
Can you attend key events and meetings?
Business Case Makers and Local Government Liason
We aim to galvanise stake holders and build reopening proposals to DfT Green Book Standards.
Can you help others respond to re-opening consultations?
Can you table objections to specific planning threats and engage proactively with planning processes?
Can you build a team and orchestrate nationwide project coverage?
“Angels fly because they take themselves lightly”.
